OUR VISION

"Helping children explore the wonders of their youth, the magnificence of the world around them, the knowledge they hold within, the importance of friends and family, and all which makes them special and unique"

OUR MISSION

It is the philosophy of UUMC Preschool and MDO that early childhood should be a time, of fun, warmth, security, exploring and discovery. Preschool children are creative and receptive; the staff strives to nurture and encourage these qualities in the children. Our purpose is to provide an atmosphere that encourages social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development of the child as a whole.

OUR CURRICULUM

Planned within the framework of philosophy and purpose, our curriculum includes sharing and conversation time; stories, songs, and fingerplays; creative art activities and crafts; games and large muscle activities; food preparation; science and nature activities; exposure to shapes, colors, numbers, and letters; and celebration of birthdays and holidays. And, most importantly, playing, having fun, and learning.

Our program is Christian-oriented, but not denominationally sectarian. We stress those elements of Christian faith which are common to all. Parents are very important to us. We want to know them and to help them know each other. Our families come from a wide area. Many denominations as well as countries are represented. We heartily welcome children from any and all racial backgrounds.

Our Mother's Day Out program provides loving care in a warm and friendly environment for infants and toddlers aged 9 months through 24 months (age as of September 1). The teachers encourage language and motor skill development through a variety of age-appropriate activities. The children are introduced to art projects, nursery rhymes, songs and finger plays. But, most importantly, each child is nurtured, loved and respected for the unique being he or she is.

Our Preschool program is designed for children aged 2 through Pre-Kindergarten. Through the use of learning centers such as the manipulative center, block center, science center, and dramatic play center the children learn to make choices and learn to cooperate with others. Each classroom uses the unit theme approach and is structured to appeal to and benefit all learner types. Developmental skills are acquired through the use of stories, motor activities, language and math activities and many different forms of art that focus on the unit themes. Computers and reading readiness skills provide for a dynamic learning environment.

Hours 9:00 - 2:00
Days Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Children learn through play, by doing, by moving, by imitating, by experimenting and through their senses. Current brain research is giving more insight into the powerful impact creative play has on a child's future academic success. We provide a curriculum that meets those important developmental skills.
