MUSIC MINISTRY
The focus of the music ministry at UUMC is to enhance the worship of God.
Opportunities abound for all ages to participate in vocal and handbell choirs.
Organ recitals, special choral performances, handbell concerts and instrumental
recitals – along with regular church services – are part of the musical
landscape.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is composed of students and adults who enjoy singing.
Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. The choir prepares and
presents anthems regularly for the morning worship service and leads
congregational hymn singing in joyful worship experiences. They also present
major choral works during Advent and Lent, such as Handel's "Messiah" and the
Fauré "Requiem." The choir presents an annual concert that includes either
popular music, spirituals or gospel songs.
Wesleyan Handbell Choir
The Wesleyan Handbell Choir is composed of faithful ringers using five octaves
of handbells, and four octaves of handchimes. Rehearsals are each Wednesday
evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. In addition to ringing for worship services, they
participate in the District A.G.E.H.R. Festival. The choir presents two concerts
each year - at Christmas and in the spring. Solo, duet and ensemble pieces are
also featured at concerts and during worship services.
Music Makers
Music Makers is a group of elementary age children from kindergarten through
fifth grade students. They meet regularly on Sundays immediately after worship
from the week after Labor Day through the week before Mother's Day. Music Makers
participate in worship, first Sunday "food and fellowship" opportunities, and
holiday performances with their joyful noise which includes singing and playing
a variety of instruments.
Third Thursday Recital Series
From September to May, recitals are presented on the Third Thursday of each
month at 12:15pm. Lunch is available following each recital so attendees are
able to enjoy beautiful music and a delicious lunch within an hour's time.
Organists, vocalists, instrumentalists and choirs have all performed on the
series.
Audio Tape Ministry
Audio tapes of worship service are made and distributed to our home-bound
members and friends accompanied by a welcome visit.
