Church Bios
Pastor
Sanford (“Sandy”) Wylie is a graduate of Barnsdall High School and holds degrees
from the University of Tulsa (B.A. ’66), Yale Divinity School (B.D. ’70), and
Vanderbilt Divinity School (D.Min. ’84). This is his fourth time to serve under
appointment in the Tulsa District. He was the founding pastor of St. Stephen’s
UMC in Broken Arrow (1970-75), senior pastor at University UMC (1987-92), senior
pastor at New Haven UMC (1995-02), and now senior pastor again at University UMC.
For 7 years (2002-09) he was superintendent of the McAlester District.
In addition to serving in several capacities in the Oklahoma Conference, Sandy
has served in A Christian Ministry in the National Parks, in the Iona Community
in the Church of Scotland, and in the United States Army as a chaplain. He has
also served as a Trustee of Oklahoma City University and is a member of The
Academy of Homiletics. Sandy has taught preaching in various settings and
written for several preaching journals. In his spare time, he enjoys golf,
reading and watching sports.
In 1973 Sandy married the former Susan Scaggs of Muskogee. Susan graduated from
the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with a BSN degree in 1980 and
has worked in health care in several settings. Twice she was chief nursing
officer of a hospital. Currently she is an administrative supervisor at Tulsa’s
St. Francis Hospital, working mainly with the Heart Hospital
Susan and Sandy have two sons. Benjamin holds a Ph.D. from the Univ. of Illinois
and is currently a fellow at Columbia University doing post-doctoral work in
cancer research. Ben and his wife Heather have two children: Emaline and Thomas.
Micah is a graduate of Northwestern Univ. (Evanston, IL) and is a producer for
stage and screen in Los Angeles.
Director of Music Ministries
Dan Call (dcall@umeth.org) has been involved in the ministry of church music
since 1972 shortly before graduating from the University of Tulsa in 1974.
Immediately upon graduation, Dan became the vocal music director at Memorial
High School and retired from there as Fine Arts Director in 2004. Since his
retirement from public education Dan and his wife Kathy have founded a theatre
production company, Tulsa Repertory Musicals which specializes in educational
and family entertainment. Other areas of involvement include serving as both a
fine arts consultant and recruiter for area school districts, a volunteer reader
for elementary schools and serving on the board of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra.
Associate
Director of Music Ministries
Kathy Call is a graduate of the University of Tulsa and after 30 years in area
school systems is currently teaching at the University School at TU. In addition
to over 30 years in the classroom, Kathy held positions serving as organist and
director of children's music. After working with other area theatre companies
for 35 years, Kathy, with her husband Dan, created a company of their own -
Tulsa Repertory Musicals, Inc. TRM has produced shows in dozens of venues
throughout the state including the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, The Coleman
Theatre in Miami, OK, Tulsa Little Theatre and many areas schools and churches.
Director of Children and Youth Ministries
Pat Wells (pwells@umeth.org) joined the staff of UUMC in 1988. Pat is proud to
say that her great grandmother helped break the ground for the building of UUMC
in 1933. She and her husband, Elvin, met while attending UMYF together at the
church and were married at the church in 1970. They have two daughters and 3
grandchildren. Pat has worked on staff as Office Assistant, Children's and Youth
Ministries Associate, and currently as Director of Children and Youth
Ministries. She and Elvin recently completed their 15th summer mission trip with
the UUMC Youth.
Office Administrator
Kelly Wells Wolery (kwolery@umeth.org) joined the UUMC staff in March of 2009.
She was born and raised in Tulsa and has been a member of the church for as long
as she can remember. Her great, great Grandmother helped build the church and
her family has been coming to the church ever since. Kelly is very active in the
church choir and is the Wedding Coordinator for the church as well. Kelly is
married to her husband, Ben and has a step-son, Caleb.
Preschool Director
Susan Tindell (tindellfive@aol.com) is the
new Preschool and MDO Director. She comes to us from Christ UMC, Sapulpa UMC and
Faith UMC. She is married and has three children.
